Plan your space

Seven questions, and a straight answer.

Tell us about your garden and how you will actually use it, and we will tell you what belongs there, what it will cost to run, and what to settle before you spend anything. Including when the answer is that you should not buy at all.

Question one

What are you hoping to end up with?

There is no wrong answer here, including the last one.

Question two

How many people, most of the time?

Most of the time, not at its busiest. Buying for the Christmas party is the commonest and most expensive mistake in this category.

Question three

Honestly, how often will you use it?

Answer for the version of you in February, not the version reading this in July. This single answer changes our recommendation more than any other.

Question four

Is there an electrical supply where it would go?

A chilled plunge cannot run without one. A wood fired sauna does not need one at all.

Question five

What is the narrowest point between the road and the spot?

Not the gate. The pinch three metres past it, where the drainpipe is.

Question six

What would it be standing on?

More of these installations are spoiled from underneath than from above.

Last question

Are you in a smoke control area?

Much of urban and suburban Britain is. It decides whether you may legally burn wood in a garden structure with a chimney, and almost nobody selling saunas mentions it.

What we would put in your garden

Send this to whoever else needs convincing.

A garden this size is usually decided by two people, and normally only one of them has read this far. We will email the result so you have it, and so does everybody else who gets a say.

We will send this once, with nothing attached to it. Copied

How this works

No email required, and no product we are trying to move.

01 The answer is free and immediate

You get the recommendation on this page, in full, without giving us anything. If it is useful, keep it.

02 It will tell you not to buy

Several routes through these questions end in us saying this will not work, or that a cheaper option suits you better.

03 Running costs are real numbers

Calculated from your answers at the current capped electricity rate, not rounded down to look attractive.

04 Then talk to a person

If your situation is unusual, and some are, the answer is a conversation rather than a form.
